Background
Chin Chang Hai, SaeTan (Mr. Sahai Tantipornsawad) is a Thai-Chinese, Hokkien who sailed from Hokkien Province to settle in Phuket Island, Thailand. His parents were married and had 12 children. Chen Chang Hai was the second child. He completed grade four and began working as an auto parts salesman. He first learned about the Deity Baow Cheng Da Tee when he was 15 years old at the Medium House (Ban Long Phra) which is a house where rituals were performed. A medium from China came into possession of the body of a medium, which was Deity Baow Cheng Da Tee. He came to possess the body of a medium, which he used to help villagers, heal the sick, and give advice to villagers who were troubled. Mr. Chen Chang Hai attended the event at the medium’s house, which led him to meet and become friends with Ong Hong Yin, who was adopted daughter of the medium, Deity Baow Cheng Da Tee. Ong Hong Yin’s adoptive father brought the golden body of Baow Cheng Da Tee from Xiamen, which was called ‘Hokkien Phuket’ at that time, to pay homage and worship. He had the ability to help the villagers continuously.
At the age of 23, Mr. Chen Chang Hai got married to Ong Hong Yin. Mr. Chen began a furniture store and always sought advice from Baow Cheng Da Tee. As a result, his business prospered, and he became wealthier. During his 40s, he started building a hotel. He had to obtain a loan from the bank, resulting in a debt amounting to several million bahts. Mr. Chen Chang Hai was under a lot of stress, so he consulted Baow Cheng Da Tee. Baow Cheng Da Tee advised him not to experience any stress and to maintain patience for a period of three years, after which he would receive a substantial sum of money. It was true.
Three years later, Mr. Chen Chang Hai sold part of the beachfront land at Kata Beach, Phuket province, for 150 million baht and used the proceeds to pay off all of his debts. I used the remaining funds to build a commercial building for rent and a second hotel at Kata Beach. On the opening day of the hotel, he extended an invitation to Baow Cheng Da Tee, the spirit medium, to perform a ceremony. During that day, Baow Cheng Da Tee conversed with Mr. Chen Chang Hai, expressing his desire to reside on the vacant land adjacent to the hotel. Mr. Chen Chang Hai promised, “if there is money, He will build a Chinese shrine”. Subsequently, the hotel industry prospered with substantial revenues. Mr. Chen Chang Hai then began constructing the Chinese shrine for the spirit medium as promised. The construction took six years and was officially completed in 2016, with a total construction budget of 18,797,000 baht.
During the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, the shrine will provide free vegetarian food to the villagers to participate in the annual vegetarian festival. The event has been in place for 5 years. The Chen family values and believes Baow Cheng Da Tee as if he were their father and grandfather. They will seek guidance on all matters. Upon hearing the words, they attentively listen and adhere to the guidance provided.
Cheng Chang Hai, who is currently 78 years old, has always been determined, hardworking, and honest. He has followed the advice of the Deity Baow Cheng Da Tee throughout his life. Presently, he possesses substantial assets, including a furniture store, 40 commercial properties available for lease, and two hotels. Cheng Chang Hai always remembers that his business is thriving because of the Deity Baow Cheng Da Tee. He has a strong belief in building a beautiful shrine for Baow Cheng Da Tee, so that the villagers can come to worship and ask for blessings.
