It’s time for New Year’s Eve 2018 in Phuket together with the ‘Amazing Thailand Countdown 2018@Phuket’ event. The TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) Phuket Office would like to invite you all to celebrate the coming New Year under the theme ‘In the Past’.
Phuket provincial governor, Mr. Norraphat Plodthong has mentioned how ready Phuket is to welcome tourists during this New Year’s event and that there are also many countdown spots for tourists in Phuket besides the Phuket Old Town area. There are also big events such as ‘Phuket Brand Best Festival Countdown 2018’ held in Saphanhin to the east of Phuket Town. However, the TAT’s ‘Amazing Thailand Countdown 2018@Phuket’ is one of five main countdown destinations being held. There are also events in other destinations such as Patong, Kata, Karon, Nai Harn, Surin and Kamala beaches. Tourists can easily spot the one-stop-service areas staffed by eager helpers by the bright lights. At these one-stop-service spots there will be policemen, tourist support staff, local organization staff members, volunteers and multilingual local guides speaking English, Chinese, and Russian standing by at each spot.
As for the local community, Mr. Don Limnontapisit, the group leader of Phuket Old Town community based tourism said, ‘It is considered a great honour for Phuket Old Town to be selected as one of the five Amazing Thailand Countdown 2018 @Phuket venues this year. Normally, the New Year’s countdown is held in other areas but this year Phuket Old Town has been chosen. This year Phuket Old Town will be decorated with colourful lights over the old buildings. The highlight and main apot will be at the clock towner, or as some people call it, the old police station (at the crossroads with Thepkasattri and Phang Nga roads. Normally on every Sunday of the week, the street is closed off from cars for the walking market street named Lard Yai. The Sunday walking street market usually hosts many people. So, on 30 and 31 December we expect a higher number of visitors and the community is well prepared for the event.’
Ms. Kanokkittika Kritwutikon, TAT director of Phuket Office, invites visitors and tourists via Phuket E Magazine, saying that ‘Our Phuket Old Town is lovely and a unique community, retaining a mixed culture and a rich history. This is also a good chance for visitors to experience the new side of Phuket Old Town. I guarantee that you will take happiness back home. We will do our best as hosts to welcome visitors from all over the world at this special event’.
